UK weather forecast – Snow to chill Britain this weekend as temperatures plummet to -7C – The Sun, Thesun.co.uk


THE UK is bracing for a weekend of rain and snow – with temperatures set to plunge as low as -7C in Scotland and the north of England.

Slightly milder temperatures elsewhere will be cancelled out by cutting winds of up to 64 mph, according to forecasts.

The Met Office is forecasting snow and sleet across northern England and Scotland for much of the weekend – which began on Friday night.

Temperatures of just 8-9C will be cancelled out by fierce gales of between 64 and mph – meaning it will feel as low as 0C when wind chill is factored in.

Friday night also saw a deluge of icy rain – focused mainly across Devon and Cornwall as the winter washout continues.

On Saturday, the weather will be dry and bright throughout much of the country, particularly in the South – but the evening looks set for more snow.

A Met Office meteorologist said: “A front of rain from the southwest will hit cold air, and we could see snow to north Wales and and the north of England.

“Saturday night could bring five to ten centimetres on higher ground in Scotland and the north of England, and perhaps a centimetre on lower ground in the northeast.”

  • The spokesperson added that snow falling overnight is likely to settle, but that no weather warnings are currently in place.

    Saturday night will see temperatures fall a couple of degrees below freezing in the north, although staying milder further south.

    Sunday will be a day of showers with some sunshine breaking through, particularly in the southeast.

    The Met Office spokesperson said: “Temperatures in the south will still be reaching maximums of nine or ten degrees, and most places will struggle to reach mid-single figures.

    “But the wind should be lighter than on Saturday.”

    Temperatures are set to plunge even lower on Sunday night than on Saturday, with Scotland, the north of England, and Northern Ireland likely to experience lows of -7C.
