UK weather forecast: Storm Dennis to bring 72 hours of heavy rain and 60mph winds – Mirror Online, Mirror.co.uk

Storm Dennis will unleash 250 hours of torrential rain and gale force winds of up to mph, with a danger to life warning in place.

The Met Office has issued warnings throughout the UK across the weekend, to replace the snow and ice ones in place until midday today.

Britain was brought to its knees by Storm Ciara last weekend – with the second named storm of the winter running riot across the country, causing major travel disruption, including more than flights being canceled.

But with Ciara having all but passed, Dennis is threatening fresh havoc, according to forecasters.

Heavy rain is on the cards as Storm Dennis will be here by Friday

Oli Claydon, a spokesman for the Met Office, speaking to The Sun, said: “Storm Dennis will bring widespread winds and very wet conditions this weekend.

“Storm Dennis is following a similar pattern to Storm Ciara with low pressure coming in from the northwest, but we do not expect it to be as severe.

“However we will see inland gusts of mph quite widely and further very heavy rain on saturated ground there could be issues with flooding. Like Ciara, this storm is being pulled in by the jet stream which is amplifying and passing over Britain at around (mph. ”

However, chief meteorologist Steve Ramsdale has played down the threat of Dennis, explaining it is “currently not expected to be as severe as Ciara” but disruption is likely.

“Our confidence in the forecast means we have been able to issue severe weather warnings well in advance, giving people time to prepare for potential impacts of the storm, ”he said.

Yellow weather warnings for rain and wind are in place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, which peak across almost much of England and Wales on Saturday.

The Met Office has advised there could be delays and cancellations to train and bus services, as well as a good chance of flooding in southern Scotland on Friday due to rain and melting snow. A warning is in place between 9am and 5pm.

It has also warned of heavy rain across western and southern England, as well as the far north, while strong winds across almost all of the country bar Scotland are expected.

A wind weather warning is in place from midday on Saturday until midnight on Sunday, while a rain warning will remain until midday on Sunday.

As a result, there is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, while many could also experience power cuts.

And the Met Office has also warned of a small chance of danger of injuries and to life from flying debris, due to the potential for tiles to be blown off roofs.

Today, meanwhile, could see more wind in the north with further heavy showers, falling as snow at times, though it will be less windy further south.

The Environment Agency has put flood warnings and flood alerts in place for Wednesday.
