Walk conducted to raise awareness on breast cancer – Times of India, The Times of India

Madurai: Over 500 women including nurses, doctors, and students of the Velammal Medical College participated in a walk as part of ‘Pinkathon 2019’ held in the city on Sunday.
The event, organized by Velammal Hospital, was held to commemorate World Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The event focussed on promoting fitness among women.
The organisers who spoke at the event said that breast cancer was fast becoming the most common cause of cancer among the female population in India.
Twenty-six women in a population in India were affected by the disease every year. Early detection can help to cure it completely. They said that women should undergo examination under a expert clinician if they noticed symptoms of breast cancer like lump in the breast, blood discharge from the nipple, changes in skin, size, and shape of breast.

With the latest technological advancements patients can undergo treatment with minimal adverse effects. Obesity, alcohol intake, smoking, late menopause, child birth after 30 years, hormone replacement treatments can make women prone to breast cancer.
Chairman of the Velammal Education Trust, M V Muthuramalingam, flagged off the walk.
