Weather forecast Today, Cyclone Maha Live News Updates:The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said the severe cyclonic storm ‘Maha’ is very likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm over east-central Arabian Sea during next 24 hours. The IMD has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy falls at isolated places in Lakshadweep during the next 24 hours. Heavy rain lashed the island on Thursday.

In other news, the number of masked faces in Delhi continued to grow as the city remained blanketed under the pungent haze for the fourth consecutive day on Friday with major pollutants PM 2.5 at 500 and PM 10 at 500 both in ‘severe’ category in Lodhi Road area, according to the Air Quality Index (AQI) data. In Ghaziabad, major pollutants PM 2.5 was at 487 and PM (at) , in ‘severe’ category.

At 11 am on Thursday, the highest Air Quality Index (AQI) of 469 was recorded at Anand Vihar, though most areas had AQI above the 400 – mark, according to the National Air Quality Index maintained by the Central Board of Pollution Control (CPCB).

An AQI between 0 – 50 is considered “good”, 51 – 100 “Satisfactory”, 101 – 200 “Moderate”, 201 – 300 ” poor ”, 301 – 400 “Very poor” and 401 – 500 “severe”. Above 500 falls in the “severe-plus emergency ”category.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the government would start distributing masks to schoolchildren on Friday. “We are procuring 50 lakh masks… we will distribute masks to every household through private and government school students. Every student will be given a packet with two masks each, ”the CM said.
