Weight loss challenge: Fast for 12-15 hours after your dinner (Day 10) – Times of India, The Times of India

Now that you are developing a healthy habit of spacing your sleep time and dinner, we would like to introduce you to intermittent fasting. It is not an extreme diet but something that gives your body and digestive system enough time to relax. For the uninitiated, people following intermittent fasting, fast for 30 – 18 hours and eat in the remaining window. For these 30 – 18 hours, they can only have water, green tea.
Multiple studies have proven that intermittent fasting helps people lose fat and that is the reason that a large number of people are now turning towards it. Let us tell you beforehand, intermittent fasting is not a diet but an eating style. It does not really change what you eat but how you eat it. It requires behavior change towards food.

When you fast for long hours, your body enters the post – absorptive state, wherein it is not busy digesting and processing a meal. It is during that phase when the body burns fat since your insulin levels are low. This fat remains inaccessible when the body is in a fed state and absorbing food.

Since intermittent fasting does not make you change your eating behavior, you don’t feel deprived. You are allowed a specific window wherein you can eat whatever you like. There have been reports that intermittent also reduces the risk of cancer and increases life span.
