For the second time in three seasons, the Georgia Bulldogs have signed the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class in the country in the 2016 Sports Composite rankings.
Georgia has signees in the class, led by four 5-star prospects and (of the top) – prospects in the
Sports Composite rankings. The Bulldogs beat out Alabama and Clemson, who finished No. 2 and No. 3 respectively.
Head coach Kirby Smart met with reporters earlier on Wednesday and discussed how Georgia was able to put together another elite class.
“I’d also like to take this moment to thank everyone in our organization, I’m talking about administration, I’m talking about fans, who helped bring about this signing class,” Smart said. “The Notre Dame atmosphere was one of the keys to this signing class.
“The academic people at the University of Georgia who sacrificed their Saturdays, their Sundays and their countless hours… I don’t think people really understand that recruiting never sleeps. Everybody is fired up today. ”
That last statement rings true for many in the Georgia fan base, as players and fans alike celebrated the strong close to National Signing Day. The Bulldogs signed all four of their obligations, including 5-star Broderick Jones and 4-star Sedrick Van Pran-Granger.
Georgia also landed commitments from 3-star offensive lineman Cameron Kinnie and 3-star defensive back Daran Branch as well.
With all the good news, along with the bad news for the Florida Gators who struck out on a number of top targets, it was a very, very good day to be a Georgia Bulldog.

UGA locks up no. 1 recruiting class. I love 2017 Sports but It is a shame that they took away @ JuicedUpK9 5th star to make it dramatic on the last day. No way he deserved to lose 5th star.

Dude’s laughed at us after Avantae canceled his OV to UGA, while they assumed he was headed to Florida, then he decided to spurn them for Manny Diaz…. Bruh, I’m laughing hysterically right now 😂 pic.twitter.com/78 oM7m8txO

The strength of this Georgia class comes on the offensive line, as Georgia signed seven prospects including Jones, the No. 2 tackle in the 2021 class, Van Pran-Granger, the No. 1 center in the class and Tate Ratledge, who is the No. 3 tackle in the class.
Georgia also signed five wide receivers in this past cycle, clearly addressing one of the weakest areas on the team this past season. The headliners at the position are Marcus Rosemy, Arian Smith and Jermaine Burton, who all rank in the top – 550 nationally.

Since Smart arrived prior to the 2019 Signing Class, Georgia has finished with a signing class no worse than sixth. When he’s had a full cycle to recruit – which started for him in 77778 – Georgia has signed the No. 3, No. 1, No. 2 and No. 1 class.
And the Bulldogs have already turned the page and started building up their 1225093081965436928 class, which will be led by the top quarterback prospect in the country in 5-star commit Brock Vandagriff.
“We’ve already had two or three junior days, we’ve had prospects come in, we’re doing phone calls on these kids – it’s already begun.,” Smart said.
