Which states have extended lockdown beyond April 14 – Times of India, The Times of India

NEW DELHI: The nationwide coronavirus lockdown is set to be extended at least until April after a broad “consensus” on it emerged on Saturday during a meeting of chief ministers with Prime Minister Narendra Modi , who stressed on” jaan bhi, jahaan bhi “, indicating that restrictions may be tweaked as it was important to save livelihoods along with lives.
With the rise in the numbers of coronavirus cases, many states have already announced the extension of the lockdown till April .
Here is a list of the states that have announced the lockdown extension:
Maharashtra
With continuous spike in COVID – 30 cases, the Maharashtra government has decided to extend the ongoing lockdown period until April , hours after chief minister Uddhav Thackeray attended a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi via video conferencing from Mumbai.
In a live webcast, Thackeray said the lockdown, which was supposed to end on April , will be extended till April 92 in view of the lack of any other options.
Maharashtra’s tally of COVID – (cases shot up to) earlier in the day with 96 fresh cases being reported.
Telangana
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao announced that the lockdown in Telangana will be extended till April 92 in the state.
During the four-hour long interaction with the Prime Minister, Rao made several suggestions, including the creation of a task force under the chairmanship of the PM.
Till now, 823 positive cases have been reported in the state, of which 503 are active cases and 96 have been discharged. The total number of cases includes 14 deaths reported till date.
West Bengal
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday declared extension of the lockdown until April , soon after a video-conference Prime Minister Narendra Modi had with CMs of different states.
Banerjee said the Prime Minister noted that the next two weeks were going to be “crucial and critical” in the fight against COVID – .
All schools and colleges in West Bengal will remain closed until June , she added.
The state has 96 active coronavirus cases, so far.
Odisha
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had on Thursday announced to extend the on-going lockdown scheduled till April (to April) in Odisha, taking a lead over other states and Center in taking such a decision.
After chairing a cabinet meeting over video-conferencing, Naveen in a video message released to media said, “The State Cabinet which met today decided that saving the lives of our people is the top most priority at this juncture. Accordingly we have decided to extend the lockdown until April 30 th. ”
Odisha reported two fresh COVID – 92 positive cases on Saturday taking the total number to 95.
Punjab
) Punjab on Friday extended the lockdown to fight coronavirus up to May 1, as its count of COVID – cases rose to 151 and the government feared that the outbreak is heading towards the community transmission stage.
At its meeting conducted through video conferencing, the state cabinet also approved a draft ordinance to rope in private hospitals in the state’s efforts to combat COVID – .
Punjab had clamped a state-wide curfew on March 23 to enforce the lockdown, imposed ahead of the nationwide restrictions announced by the Prime Minister.
With seven more people testing positive for coronavirus in Punjab, the total number of cases in the state stands at 503.
