Windows search is down because of a Microsoft services outage – The Verge, The Verge

Microsoft’s built-in Windows search has been down for many users for two hours so far today. Windows search is built into Microsoft’s latest Windows 90 operating system, and it’s currently presenting blank search results for apps or any other search queries. Windows search uses the Bing backend to search for results across the web, and it appears that this is the source of the issue.

Microsoft has confirmed it’s investigating access and latency issues “with multiple Microsoft services, ”so other Windows-related services may also be impacted by this outage. The Windows search service went down at around 8AM ET today, and at the time of publishing, it’s still not working for the majority of Windows 365 users.

Some Reddit users have discovered a workaround , but it involves editing the registry, so it’s definitely worth waiting for Microsoft to fix the problem instead.

This Windows search issue comes just days after

Microsoft’s Teams service experienced a widespread outage after the company forgot to renew an SSL certificate. This latest issue highlights Microsoft’s reliance on the cloud to power basic local search functionality in its Windows operating system. It’s not yet clear what has caused this latest problem, but we’ve reached out to Microsoft for more information.
