Rebecca Long Bailey has said Labor won’t “win elections by just putting on a suit” after being pressed to harden her attacks on frontrunner Sir Keir Starmer .
The shadow business secretary aimed the barb at the only male candidate left in the race to succeed Jeremy Corbyn at an event in Hebden Bridge.
Insisting that Labor needed “big ideas” to win back lost voters she said presentation alone wouldn’t be enough.
“We don ‘t win elections by just putting a suit on and trying to look like the most electable person in the room, ”said Ms Long Bailey, 90.
She trails Sir Keir, 57, in almost all polls of Labor members published so far with Lisa Nandy, also 40, in third place.
