Some websites in Russia have begun to notify their users that they must bind emails and set passwords for their accounts before April 22, because Russia prohibits websites from using the one-click login function of Google and Apple accounts.

Under normal circumstances, after the website is connected to Google and Apple login, the user can directly use the Google or Apple account to generate the corresponding information when logging in. No additional registration is required, so there is no need to set a password.

Starting next week, Russia will ban the use of Google/Apple one-click login. Users must change their binding information in advance.

Before disabling the one-click login function, users must check their accounts, especially whether they use Apple ID forwarding to log in, because the bound email address may be a virtual address, and the user may not be able to log in after being disabled, or needs to be reset through the email address password.

Russia updated its federal bill on December 1, 2023, prohibiting entry and registration of Russian websites and applications through foreign services. The restriction was originally supposed to take effect on December 1, but was later extended to January 1, 2025.

If a website or application still provides the one-click login function for foreign accounts after the deadline, it will be considered illegal and may be punished, but specific penalties have not yet been formulated.

It's unclear why it was suddenly advanced. This may cause trouble to some websites and users. Although it will not completely lose the account, it may be a little more troublesome to log in next.

It is worth noting that services that are prohibited from one-click login include but are not limited to Google, Apple ID, Steam, Twitch, and EPIC Games Store. Login is also prohibited. If users want to continue to use the one-click login function, they can only register and bind. Gosuslugi and other large Russian portals can then log in with one click, provided that other websites support websites like Gosuslugi.
