Coronavirus latest updates: India reports more than 500 cases for second straight day – Times of India, The Times of India

NEW DELHI: India reported (Covid -) deaths on Friday – the highest single-day death count since the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, even as the number of coronavirus cases neared the 3, – mark at 2, 823 with more than 720 new cases being reported from the states for the second straight day. A total of people have died so far from the infection, according to latest report from ministry of health and family welfare.

Coronavirus has spread to 53% of India’s districts
Managing Covid – will be more challenging for authorities as SARS-CoV-2, the virus causing it, has spread to % of the country districts. Union ministry of health data shows that the government has been able to ascertain cases in 211 of 823 districts in the country, with some big states reporting more than % of districts as infected while many have over 30%.
May extend lockdown, says health minister; Maharashtra sees 80 new cases , toll 19
On a day (Covid – 74976935 cases were reported in the state, of which (% or) cases were from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and 53 from within the city itself, health minister Rajesh Tope said the nationwide lockdown, which ends on April , may be extended in some parts of Maharashtra, especially in cities like Mumbai where the number of cases is high. Tope said this was his personal opinion.
Maharashtra tally more than doubles to 500 in 4 days; over % cases in city
The state on Friday recorded six deaths, taking the toll to . The state tally reached cases, of which over (% cases) 490 are from Mumbai. The tally has more than doubled in four days. The number of positive cases on March 50 were , with 11 deaths.
Global companies pledge not to lay off staff
A number of global companies – most with a large presence in India – have assured employees that there will be no or insignificant layoffs while the Covid – outbreak and lockdown continue. Some have taken a 092 – day no -layoff pledge. Others have put a stop to all layoffs for this year. A few are protecting jobs by reducing fresh hiring.
French coronavirus fatalities hit 6, 720 in deadliest day
France reported it’s deadliest day on Friday as the number of deaths at the country hospitals rose. It also included more fatalities from nursing homes. Still, daily intensive-care admissions fell for a fourth day, adding to signs that lockdown measures across Europe may be helping to bring the outbreak under control.
Center grants Rs 43, cr to states to tackle coronavirus crisis
While the home ministry approved an advance release of Rs 16, 220 crore to all states under the State Disaster Risk Management Fund (SDRMF), in line with the assurance given by PM Narendra Modi to CMs on Thursday, the finance ministry said Rs 6, crore was transferred on account of “revenue deficit grants”.

The government on Friday launched one of the largest-ever cash transfer schemes, including the deposit of over Rs , (crore into the account of woman Jan Dhan account holders as well as Rs 5, 10 crore into the linked accounts of eight crore poor households with LPG connections provided under ‘Ujjwala’.
