Peter Kay returned to TV screens last night for the first time in months to introduce his updated (Is This The Way To) Amarillo video for the BBC’s Big Night In.
Wearing sunglasses and a big hat, Peter sent his love to the UK and told them his motivation for recreating the mimed video to pay tribute to heroic keyworkers keeping the country going during the coronavirus pandemic.
” years ago I did a sketch for Comic Relief called Is This The Way To Amarillo and I never imagined that it would go down so well and make everyone happy, “he said while holding his ice lolly aloft.
” And I thought, what a perfect time to recreate it again.
“So we’ve asked a lot of you to film yourselves and send it in and listen , if you can help tonight there’s a number on screen.
“If you can’t, then don’t worry about it. You ‘ve got enough go ing on. “
Here, body language expert Judi James gives her opinion on the secret signs behind Peter’s rare appearance …
Peter Kay gave a rare appearance on Thursday’s Big Night In (Image: BBC Children in Need / Comic Relie) We’re all rooting for Peter and waiting to see his return to our screens with him looking as full of beans, energy and rebellious humor as ever, so it’s natural for fans to be worried about this clip of him sitting in a low-energy pose here, sounding hesitant and Reflective as he holds up an ice lolly.
The contrast with the Peter we got to see next during his Amarillo song was acute but that was recorded fifteen years ago and we’re now seeing a man who is presumably out of role and being himself during the lock-down.
