A communication from AMD just arrived. The AMD Ryzen 9 3950 X (16 – cores / 32 threads) that was supposed to launch this month has been delayed towards November. However during that timeframe AMD will also release Threadripper 3000 starting with 24 Cores.
So yes, it is a bit saddening to learn that AMD is delaying the AMD Ryzen 9 3950 X, we asked why but I’m afraid no further information is given on as to why that is. In its communications, AMD, however, did mention that the first Threadripper 3000 processor (Castle Peak) will be released, and yes that means ZEN2 based Threadripper. A lot has been said and spoken already about Threadripper 3000 diversifying it more onto a workload-specific ‘creators; processor with accompanying chipsets. You may expect the Threadripper to be SP3 Apyc Rome base, and we all know that Rome runs up towards 64 cores based on 2 to 4 8-core dies. Well, let’s say in two months we’ll have quite a lot to review.

As mentioned we expect to see new motherboards and chipset for Threadripper. Three model names have already surfaced named TRX 40, WRX 80 and TRX 80. And that indicates that AMD is going to make some segmentation towards their offerings. Threadripper 3000 remains to be massively interesting , but with up to 16 cores on Ryzen 3950 X, who is actually going to go for Threadripper. Well, that would be the folks on a workstation, developers, content creators prosumers and render farms. Earlier USB.org posted AMD 2019 Premium chipsets and there has been a recent update: Model Number: Superset, X 570, TRX 40, WRX 80, TRX 80. TRX 40 and TRX 80 might be more consumer and workstation oriented with perhaps some differentiation on memory channels (4-channels /8-channels).
The massive mega cores (hey 64 C / 128 t is possible) in all likelihood is intended for the WRX 80, which would be a kind of Epyc We did receive some artwork though … that’s all I can offer at this time. And yes you can read it well, AMD is starting with 24 cores / 48 threads for Threadripper 3000.
