Q: How big a blow is that?
Arteta: “It hurts.
“Big time. We had a lot of hope in this competition.
“It was a great way for us to go to Europe.
“It was a beautiful competition for us to try and win.

Arteta: “We generated more than enough to win the game.
“I think we have enough threat in this team but we have to put chances to bed.
“In Europe it’s in both boxes though.
“The few things they had, they put in the net.
“I know how much the boys wanted this competition, I have seen the way they fight.
“It’s a difficult one to digest as a team and a club.
“Now its up to us and up to me to lead this team back forward.”

Arteta: “I want to concentrate on lifting the players and convince them there is still a lot to play for.
“It’s part of the sport but we have to react as a team and a club.
“I have to lead them it’s my job.
“But first of all we have to digest it.”
Q: How do you lift the players for the Prem?
“Looking at the table we are still far from our objectives but the most important thing is to lift the dressing room.
“I will show them what happened in the game and convince them they did enough to win the tie.”

And that’s all from Arteta.
He was clearly suffering there and the defeat has obviously hit him hard.
But he maintains the aura of a man who can lead this club in the right direction.
A frustrating night for Arsenal of course but one senses with Arteta at the helm, the North Londoners can continue to build on the solid foundations he has laid so far since his arrival.
