AUSTRALIA fell agonisingly short of a Rugby World Cup record comeback as Wales held on for a huge victory.
Tries from Hadleigh Parkes and Gareth Davies as well as drop goals from Rhys Patchell and Dan Biggar gave the Welsh a commanding 26 – 8 lead at one point .
But the Wallabies fought back, scoring three tries of their own and only a heroic resistance from Wales prevented them from winning the game.
