In a country as divided as ours, we must embrace the few opinions that unite us. One such is that parliament is currently going through a bit of a rough patch in terms of the low esteem in which it is generally held.

This is nothing new from a historical point of view. I write as one who was a member of the Commons during theparliamentary expenses scandal of 2009.
