ENS Network announced that it will integrate BOX domain name and support Web2/Web3 at the same time, but it will cost up to 120 US dollars per year.

ENS Lab has previously launched an Internet domain name system based on Web3. The suffix it uses is ETH, which is Ethereum. This type of domain name can send and receive Ethereum or tokens on the Ethereum block network, which is equivalent to the complex Ethereum The address is simplified, but it is a domain name but cannot be accessed through the public network (or Web2).

Recently, ENS Lab announced a cooperation with domain name registration provider Intercap to introduce a new top-level domain name with the suffix BOX into the blockchain network. Compared with ETH domain names, the biggest advantage of BOX domain names is that it supports both Web2 and Web3.

Supporting Web2 means that the domain name can be directly accessed on the public network like a normal domain name, and supporting Web3 means that the domain name can also be used in the Ethereum block network, including sending and receiving cryptocurrency.

ENS Network announced that it will integrate BOX domain name and support Web2/Web3 at the same time, but it will cost up to 120 US dollars per year.

The main advantages provided by BOX domain names are as follows:

  • Web3 Identity: Every .box domain name acts as a distributed Internet universal username, powered by ENS Labs
  • Tokenized domain names: .box cooperates with 3DNS to bring traditional domain names into the block era and provide tokenized domain names
  • Website and email functions: .box supports public network access, so DNS can be configured to implement website and email domain functions.
  • NTF Ownership: .box domain names controlled as NFTs on the Optimism Network

Users can actually turn any domain name into a Web3 name:

Initially, ENS Lab only had an ETH suffix, and registration of the domain name had to be paid in ETH, and the registration fee + transfer fee was not cheap. On the other hand, the ETH domain name could not be accessed on the public Internet.

So last year ENS Lab reached a cooperation with GoDaddyany domain name hosted on GoDaddy can be connected to ENS's Web3 domain name system, so that ordinary domain names can be used as addresses for receiving Ethereum and tokens.

For currency circle users, in addition to ETH and BOX domain names, there are many domain names to choose from. However, as far as the currency circle is concerned, the ETH suffix is still the most recognizable. Everyone will know that you are a currency circle user when you see the ETH suffix. I also know that this address can transfer funds, but when I see the BOX domain name and other domain names, I don’t necessarily know that you are a currency user.

It is also crucial for ENS Lab to expand support for these domain names, because from the perspective of top-level domain name development, the number of registrations for the ETH suffix is not large, and the Web3 domain name system is not active enough. Gradually expand more domain names. Support may speed up the adoption of Web3 domain names.

Directly dissuade you from the price:

The BOX domain name is priced at US$120 per year and supports Ethereum or USDC payment. At this price, you can purchase a COM domain name for more than 10 years. (ETH domain name is $5/year, but taking into account Ethereum network fees, it actually costs $17.62/year at the time of publication)
