England’s final Pool C game against France will be played in Yokohama on Saturday after plans to move it to Oita 600 miles to the south on Kyushu were cancelled.
A contingency plan to move the game and for it to be possibly played behind closed doors was changed after the Super Typhoon Hagibis, which was headed towards Tokyo, shifted direction.
The tournament rules say that any pool game affected by extreme adverse weather conditions would be cancelled rather than postponed with two points awarded to each side and this eventuality could still hit this game.
However with the final standings in the pool not yet assured organisers are determined to try and maintain the integrity of the competition …
