Gomez and Milner injury updates, Keita out and Minamino back? – Predicted Liverpool lineup vs Chelsea – Liverpool.com, Liverpool.com

Liverpool head to Stamford Bridge tonight for what has become an FA Cup tie with added importance following their first league defeat of the season. The importance and relevance of the domestic cups have been debated all season, yet such topics as weakened teams and respect for the competitions seemed absent when Manchester City fielded a heavily rotated side for the Carabou Cup final on Sunday.

Jürgen Klopp has confirmed that Joe Gomez and James Milner are fit for the trip, but Naby Keita remains sidelined once again with a minor injury. Klopp remained tight lipped about his approach and selection for the match. Frank Lampard will surely be full strength in what is their last realistic prospect of a trophy this season. Liverpool should want to win this competition, and the selection will be a reflection to some of how much they want the trip to Wembley this term. With that in mind, this is how we think the team will lineup:

Liverpool’s predicted team against Chelsea tonight. (Goalkeeper)

We think that Adrián

will get the nod for this one, as is usually the case for goalkeeper deputy’s in this competition. The Spaniard has been nothing short of excellent when he has come in this season, and there will be very few fears if he is named between the sticks tonight.

Left-back

Andy Robertson should continue at left-back, continuing his relative good form in the context of Liverpool’s collective dip. They will need all of the Scot’s passion and drive if they are to get over the line in this one.

Right-back

There is some debate around whether Neco Williams or even Joe Gomez could deputise in this role, but given how important both full-backs are to Liverpool, and Trent Alexander-Arnold

‘s ever-increasing influence on this team, both he and Robertson should take their usual positions.

Center-backs

Klopp was adamant that his preparations haven’t been altered by the shock Watford loss. Therefore, we believe both

Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip will get the nod for this game ahead of Gomez and Virgil van Dijk. It is important for both players to play games when they can should they be needed, and the hope is they can put in a performance which shows they’re willing to fight for themselves and the team.

(Number six) Fabinho is out of form and has struggled to maintain his standards set at the beginning of this season and end of last. He simply has to play himself back in, and this game represents another opportunity. Number eights

Adam Lallana is expected to deputise for Gini Wijnaldum. The English midfielder can provide the leadership skills lacking in Jordan Henderson’s absence and will help Liverpool keep possession at key times. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

should continue in midfield and have one of his better days.

Left forward

Divock Origi has been a frustrating figure this season and has at times massively disappointed with his appearances. If he is given another chance tonight, it is time for him to start delivering on a more consistent level to what he is doing.

Right forward

When the majority of the front three are removed from the starting lineup, there is only usually

Sadio Mané

who survives, as was the case in games like Everton in the Premier League this season. The Reds frontman may be utilized on the right to help stifle the threat of a resurgent Marcos Alonso. Center forward

Liverpool supporters haven’t seen much of

Takumi Minamino since his arrival at Anfield, and that usually means there is a bulk of work going on behind the scenes to ensure he reaches a level required for this current team. A signal of his development may be on show tomorrow in a central attacking role.
