Google has recently released the 2024 version of its terms of service, adding copyright issues regarding content generated by Google’s artificial intelligence model, also known as Gemini. Google said that the company will not claim copyright on content generated by artificial intelligence.
For example, a user uses the Google Gemini model to generate a poem. The user can publish it in his or her own book without obtaining any permission from Google.
In addition to artificial intelligence content, Google has also expanded the terms of service for prohibited behaviors, that is, users must not abuse, damage, or interfere with Google's services or systems. Typical examples are spam and malware.
The old and new terms combined include:
- Introduce malware
- Spam, hack, or bypass Google systems or protections
- Jailbreaking, adversarial prompting, or injection, except as part of Google's security and bug testing program
- Access or use Google services in a fraudulent manner, such as creating a false account
- Providing services that appear to belong to Google, i.e. fake websites
- Reverse engineer Google services or underlying technology
- Automated access to Google services and violation of machine-readable instructions (Prohibited content of robots.txt)
Google said that the new terms of service will take effect on May 22, 2024. Starting today, Google has gradually notified users of the new terms of service by email. If users do not agree to these terms of service, they need to stop using Google before the effective date. and its related services.
