Kamala Harris claimed she did not hear the remarks made at her campaign event Friday when an attendee described President Trump’s actions as “mentally retarded.”
“I don’t buy that argument that impeachment doesn’t make sense,” the man said to Harris in New Hampshire. “What are you going to do in the next one year to diminish the mentally retarded action of [Trump]?”
“Well said,” Harris said, laughing. “Well said.”
During a rally, a voter referred to Trump’s actions as “mentally retarded”, prompting@KamalaHarristo laugh and say, “well said, well said.”

The 2020 presidential candidate told reporters Saturday that she heard the man “talk about the other stuff. And then, that came later. And it was not something that I really heard or processed. ”
She said the term, which is now considered a slur, is “incredibly offensive.”
“You would think that in the year 2019 , people would have a much better understanding how hurtful a term like that can be – but also the history behind it, which is the history of really ignoring the needs and the realities of our disabilities community, ”she said.
I noted to Harris that she did not correct the man who used the term. Did she hear him? “I heard him talk about the other stuff. And then that came later. And it was not something that I really heard or processed. ”

When asked by another reporter if she regretted saying “well said,” Harris said she would “never condone that kind of language being spoken by anybody about anybody,” even when it’s used to describe Trump.
