The supervillain origin story, which stars Joaquin Phoenix and is directed by Todd Phillips, looks set to dominate on the night, and will compete for Best Film alongside Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino’s latest films, as well as , and Parasite. Focused on how the Clown Prince Of Crime came to be, the box-office hit also earned nods in the categories for Best Director, Leading Actor, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, Production Design, Make Up and Hair and Sound.

This is Joaquin’s fourth nomination by BAFTA, and while he is the frontrunner he faces tough competition in the Lead Actor category from Adam Driver (Marriage Story), Leonardo DiCaprio (Once Upon A Time … In Hollywood), Taron Egerton (Rocketman), and Jonathan Pryc e (The Two Popes).

The Master actor’s chances of taking home his first BAFTA are very high, given he has already earned a Golden Globe and a SAG award earlier this month.
