The European champions somewhat surprisingly did not splash the cash on strengthening the squad, choosing to only spend money on 17 – year-old defender Sepp van den Berg from PEC Zwolle, who cost just £ 1. 71 m, while goalkeepers Adrian and Andy Longeran were signed for free and 16 – year-old winger Harvey Elliott joined for an undisclosed fee.

It remains to be seen whether Jurgen Klopp decides he needs a new player or two in January, and much will surely depend on Liverpool’s success both domestically and in Europe up until then.
