Microsoft once again reminds that it will stop supporting Microsoft Teams Classic Edition on July 1, 2024

At the beginning of 2024, Microsoft announced that it will reserve more transition time for customers using Microsoft Teams Classic (classic version), so that enterprises and educational institutions can migrate to the new version of Microsoft Teams based on WebView 2 before July 1, 2024.

There are only about two months until the end of support, and Microsoft also posted on its blog to provide some more specific information to remind enterprises and educational institutions to complete the migration as soon as possible.

Microsoft once again reminds that it will stop supporting Microsoft Teams Classic Edition on July 1, 2024

Can the subsequent classic version still be used?

Only available for a short period of time, after July 1 the classic version of Microsoft Teams will still be able to connect to Microsoft servers until October 23, after which the classic version will be blocked from connecting to Microsoft servers and therefore unable to log in.

What are the consequences after stopping support:

Microsoft has stopped supporting Microsoft Teams Classic Edition since July 1, and will no longer provide any updates to this version, including but not limited to feature updates, security updates, and bug fixes.

That is to say, even if security vulnerabilities are discovered, Microsoft will not fix them. Therefore, continuing to use the version that has stopped supporting will cause serious security threats to enterprises and educational institutions.

Are there alternative versions available?

Another available alternative version is the Microsoft Teams web version, but the new version of Microsoft Teams itself is packaged based on WebView 2 and is not much different from the web version.

It is recommended that users, especially enterprise IT administrators, test the new version of Microsoft Teams as soon as possible and complete the upgrade. Otherwise, subsequent intranet users will only be able to use the web version due to security considerations.
