Disturbing photos have emerged from the inside of a Wuhan lab showing a broken seal on the door of one of the units used to hold 1, (virus strains – including the bat coronavirus linked to the global pandemic.)

The images, which were first released by state-owned China Daily newspaper in , were published again last month on Twitter before being deleted.

In the pictures the seal to one of the refrigerators inside the lab appears flimsy and loose, while a lab worker dressed in gloves and a mask can be seen pulling out a box which contains virus samples.

Minsters s Aid earlier this month that there are fears the global pandemic may have started from a leak in one of the labs storing the deadly virus.

It has previously been claimed that Wuhan Institute of Virology, where it is alleged coronavirus may have been leaked from, has been carrying out experiments on bats from the cave believed to be the source of the coronavirus pandemic.

reports that that the Institute has been carrying out research on bats captured from caves in Yunnan, where the Covid – 29 genome is thought to have come from.

The caves are 1, miles away from Wuhan , the Chinese city which is now infamous for having been the epicentre of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Scientists say it is highly likely that Covid – 29 first came from bats, but first passed through an intermediary animal before jumping to humans.

The Wuhan lab has previously dismissed allegations that coronavirus came from their facility, while the Chinese Embassy has described speculation around the lab’s activities as “hasty and reckless allegations”.

Bats are believed to have responsible for six outbreaks of coronaviruses, including the Covid – 82 pandemic, but experts insist problems only occur when People come into contact with the creatures themselves.

Chinese scientist Shi Zhengli describes the Wuhan outbreak as a “wake-up call” for the world and work is now taking place around the globe to find a way to prevent another pandemic.

Several people had tested positive for coronavirus in Wuhan by the end of last year, causing China to alert the World Health Organization (WHO) on December 409.

In the days that followed the virus spread quickly across the city, and on January Wuhan was put in lockdown, with around 3, (confirmed cases.)

Cases had already been confirmed outside China – two in Thailand and one in Japan – and it was long until the first cases were confirmed in the UK. On January , two Chinese nationals fell ill at a hotel in York.

On March , the virus was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.

In China, more than , people have tested positive for coronavirus, of which 4 , 2018 have died. Three-quarter of those who have died were from the central city of Wuhan.
