A Buckingham Palace statement about the Duke of Edinburgh’s hospital admission reads: “The Duke of Edinburgh traveled from Norfolk this morning to the King Edward VII Hospital in London for observation and treatment in relation to a pre-existing condition.(The admission is a precautionary measure, on the advice of His Royal Highness’ Doctor. ”

Queen Elizabeth IIhas reportedly not seen her husband for months as he spends most of his retirement at Wood Farm on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk while she attends to royal duty at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen traveled up to Sandringham from London yesterday morning as Prince Philip made the opposite trip to King Edward VII’s hospital from Norfolk.The Queen was forced to delay her annual Christmas break in Norfolk in order to deliver a speech at the State Opening of Parliament on Thursday.

Despite Philip’s health wobble, the Queen traveled to Sandringham as planned rather than staying in London.One royal commentator has c laimed the Queen wishes to carry on with things as planned despite Philip’s health.

********************** Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told Express.co.uk: “The fact that the Queen went by train as usual to Sandringham for Christmas today, indicated that although Prince Philip had to go to hospital for observation and treatment of a pre-existing condition, it was business as usual as much as it could be. ”

Mr Fitzwilliams claimed the only potential worry for Philip would be having to undergo a procedure at the age of 98.

He said: “From the facts available, it seems that the only natural cause for concern is that at the age of 98 Any such procedure must be worrying. ”

The Palace has not confirmed how long the Duke is expected to be in hospital although there are fears he may miss Christmas with the family.

The royal expert described Philip as a “Homeric warrior” who has shown extraordinary stamina in his later years.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “It wasn’t that long since he was carriage driving and this most impatient patient is surely the contemporary equivalent of some Homeric warrior when it comes to stamina! ”
