we hate captchas, and so do you

That’s why we built this captcha alternative. All it takes is one click! No deciphering letters or finding images. Give it a try below!

that was pretty easy right?

Simply add wehatecaptchas to your site and protect your site from spam without annoying users. It works by requiring your computer to solve complex mathematical equations in the background. It’s a quick process for legitimate users, but is slow and expensive for spammers.

Here’s how to add wehatecaptchas to your site

Include our JavaScript library and addid=”wehatecaptchas”to the form you want to add wehatecaptchas to (when people submit form the form response will be sent to a function called onSubmit, so create a function with that name and declare it before our library – use it to get the response and / or change the page after success). Here’s an example implementation:

Here’s how to verify server-side

Anybody can disable JavaScript to bypass this, but not if you verify the response server-side. A parameter calledcaptcha_verificationwill be added to every request. Send this to wehatecaptchas.com/api.php?endpoint=verify&captcha_verification=JSON_STRING_GENERATED_BY_CLIENT (POST request recommended) – it’ll return true or false to let you know it response is valid. Here’s an example implementation:

need more security?

By default captchas can only have a difficulty between 1 and 10, but if you purchase an API key you can set a difficulty all the way up to 50 to really stick it to those persistent spammers.contact sales

How’s this work?proof of work

How’s this work? (detailed)We send your browser a unique string. It must be “solved” within 5 minutes. You browser is told to hash that unique string over and over, each time adding a new number. Your browser starts at 1 and counts up. Doing this until the outputted hash starts with 5 zeros (this is the solution to the captcha and is needed to submit the form). Depending on the difficulty you might do this multiple times. This protects your forms by making it slow and unappealing to spammers as this process requires computer power.

How’s this compare to reCAPTCHA?It’s easier for an automated script to solve a wehatecaptchas captcha. At the same time there is services that solve 1, 000 reCAPTCHAS for less than a dollar. Proof of work is a process that requires significant computer power and will put a dent in the spammer’s electricity bill.

This might slow down spam requests or even stop them entirely. You can tweak the difficulty setting for individual users (example: somebody is spamming your blog so you set their difficulty to 10 and they get annoyed and stop since they have to wait so long).

Am I mining cryptocurrency? No! You’re only solving math you aren’t earning us any money.
