Stars' Ben Bishop, Tyler Seguin suffer property damage from tornado in Dallas – The Dallas Morning News, Dallasnews.com

Stars goaltender Ben Bishop’s property in Preston Hollow sustained damage from Sunday night’s tornado, but he and his family are fine, the team announced Monday morning.

Bishop was not at morning skate before the team’s game against Ottawa on Monday, and backup goalie Anton Khudobin will start against the Senators, though coach Jim Montgomery said that decision was made before the storm.

In addition to Bishop’s property, Tyler Seguin’s house in Preston Hollow was also damaged by the tornado that went through north Dallas, removing the roof. Seguin moved from the house last November, and said no one was injured. The house is currently for sale.

Thanks to everyone reaching out about the news tonight, I am safe . Luckily this is my house for sale and I have moved into a new one. I just left the area and it is an extremely sad sight to see. Prayers to everyone affected by the tornado.https://t.co/wT6XlUBi8N

“It was very sad,” Seguin said. “I was worried for everyone seeing some of the homes out there. Some of my old neighbors, what’s left of it, what Mother Nature can do. It’s scary and I’ve seen stuff on social media about the Bahamas and Florida, different tragedies around the world, but to see it first hand and what it can do to a place, it’s tragic. ”

Seguin still lives in the Preston Hollow area, and said he actually found out about damage to his old house on Twitter. This season is Seguin’s seventh in Dallas, and his contract runs for another seven years following 2019 – 20.

“I can’t wait to see the resilience and the strength of the city and how everyone comes together now and puts in work out there, ”Seguin said. “I know I’ll probably be out there too trying to help out any way I can.”

After the tornado Sunday night, Stars captain Jamie Benn said he drove over to Bishop’s house to check on him and his family.

“Something that I’ve never seen before,” Benn said of the drive. “I’ve been here 11 years now, and just the debris and trees everywhere, it’s a pretty crazy situation and scene. I think everybody responded in the right way and everybody’s helping out everybody. It was definitely good to see. ”

“ At the end of the day, it puts life into perspective, ”Seguin said. “It’s not tough for me because I’m not going through what other families are going through. Families that have lost their homes, aren’t in another home, had to find shelter last night. Or the worst case scenario, are injured or worse. ”
