TAMPA, Fla. – Hobbling around the field Saturday, Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson was affected by an apparent right ankle injury.
Watson downplayed the injury, which did not force him to leave the game after being examined in the blue medical tent with backup quarterback A.J. McCarron warming up at one point.
BRIAN T. SMITH:Texans must be more than just division winners
Watson finished off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won the AFC South division title for the second year in a row. Although Watson did not have his trademark mobility, he threw one interception and did not have a touchdown pass, he did enough to hold off the Buccaneers and earn an automatic playoff berth.
“No, I’m just fine,” Watson said when asked about his health. “I was able to finish the game and deal with what I had to deal with. I’m all good. I’m definitely going to enjoy it.
“I’m healthy. We got the W, off (Sunday), family coming to town, it’s Christmas time. I’m going to sit back and relax and watch some football.”
Watson completed 21 of 43 passes for yards for a 90 5 passer rating against a stout Buccaneers defense. He had a key 39 -yard completion late in the game to wide receiver DeAndre Carter.
Being back at Raymond James Stadium sparked memories for Watson, who won the national championship for Clemson with a game-winning touchdown pass against Alabama in (*********************************. ********
“It’s cool,” Watson said. “Every stadium, regardless of where we would have played at, it would have been awesome to take over and win the South. Definitely a good feeling to be back here and kind of reminisce pre-game and then got back focused and try to win another championship. “
