Long-term Broadstairs resident Jason Dors Lake has died just days after turning 50.
The actor, and youngest son of blonde bombshell star Diana Dors ,, had lived in the town for many years before moving to in Notting Hill
Jason, also a musician, was known for his work on The Blonde Bombshell (1999), Just William (1976) and Into the Labyrinth (1981).
His mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 1982, and died in May 1984. Jason; s father Alan Lake immediately burnt all of Dors’ clothes, and fell into a depression. On October 10 1984, he took Jason, aged 14, to the railway station, returned to his Sunningdale home, and took his own life.
Jason was made a ward of court to his half-brother Gary Dawson in Los Angeles,
He acquired his mother’s estate and had a business selling Diana Dors merchandise.
Jason battled alcoholism and struggled to cope after witnessing the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017.
Close friend and Broadstairs singer Mandy Winters, who brought the Diana Dors story to the stage in Diana Dors -Her Story, has said she was saddened to hear of Jason’s passing.
The show opened two years ago and Mandy got a residency at the Pheonix this year, Jason appeared twice on stage with her.
She said: “It has been very tough following the devastating news of the passing of my dear friend and soul brother Jason Dors-Lake, l cannot find the right words to explain how l’m feeling to be honest. Numb maybe is a good start.
“Jason and l were very close and we had some interesting times. l loved him dearly, and l’ll miss his presence in my life, he was a one off. ”
His death was announced on Facebook group Diana Dors: The Legacy.
The statement says: “It saddens me to inform you of the passing of Diana’s youngest son, Jason Dors Lake at the age of 50.
“Please join me in offering condolences, thoughts and prayers to Jason’s loved ones and close friends at this time.”
Jason is survived by his daughter Ruby.
