Whoopi Goldberg returns to Sister Act for a new West End production alongside Jennifer Saunders … 28 years after starring in smash hit film

Whoopi Goldberg is returning to her role in Sister Act, 28 years after the smash hit movie was released.
The Oscar-winning star is reprising her role as Deloris Van Cartier in a newly adapted West End production, with Jennifer Saunders playing Mother Superior, who was played by Maggie Smith in the film.
Whoopi first starred as the disco diva hiding out in a convent in the 1992 movie.

The actress is also a producer for the new production, which will be on stage at London’s Eventim Apollo for a short run from July 29 to August 30 2020.
A stage version of Sister Act, for which Whoopi was a producer for, debuted in the West End in 2009 and has since played a successful run on Broadway and on tours across the globe.
Whoopi briefly appeared as Mother Superior at the London Palladium production in 2010 but the new show will see the beloved actress back in the role she made famous in Sister Act and Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit for the first time.

On Thursday matinees, role of Deloris will be played by West End star and Loose Women panellist Brenda Edwards.
Sister Act features original music from Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater, book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane.

Sister Act will run at London’s Eventim Apollo from July 29 to August 30 2020. Tickets are on sale now.
