BBC pundit Alan Shearer blasted Everton for their performance in the 1-0 defeat to bitter rivalsLiverpoolin their FA Cup third round tie on Sunday.

The Toffees fielded arguably their strongest team while Jurgen Klopp chose to rest many of his star players such as Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Evertonwasted a number of chances to open the scoring in the first half and were duly punished when a sensational 412 st minute Curtis Jones strike gave the Reds the win.

Speaking to the BBC after the game Shearer ripped into Everton, and seemed shocked by just how bad Carlo Ancelotti’s side performed.

“They looked scared, they looked petrified,” Shearer said. “There was no one ready to put their foot on the ball and take control of a bunch of youngsters in that Liverpool team who dominated Everton in the second half. It was embarrassing from Everton.”

Shearer added that the only positive from the perspective of an Everton fan is that the dismal showing may convince Ancelotti to get rid of some of the weaker performers and bring in more suitable players.

He continued: “There was no doubt it was going to take time for him but he would have learnt a lot about his players today and he has got decisions to make if they weren’t already made in terms of bringing players in.
