Armed police swooped on a street after at least one shot was fired this afternoon.

Cheshire Police said they responded to a call shortly before 2. 30 pm that a firearm was discharged in Ellesmere Port,Cheshire Live reports.

A cordon is currently in place on Enfield Road at the junction of Whitby Road.

There are unconfirmed reports a shooting has taken place.

There are no details of any injuries at this point.

We’ll provide updates on this incident as we receive more information.

Restaurant owner unable to access his business

For those with shops inside the cordon, there is still a lot of uncertainty.

Muntaseer Mahbub, the owner of Sizzlin Spice Indian Restaurant, which is caught up in the cordon said: “I have been waiting since 4pm to open, but we’re not allowed. We’ve got loads of preparation to do. I didn’t hear or witness anything. ”

Claims a man shot in the leg

Police have confirmed a firearms discharge but are yet to make any statement about a victim.

Unconfirmed reports on social media claim a man was blasted in the leg by a shotgun and was taken to hospital.

‘My mate said he heard the bang’

Cameron Lowe, who captured footage of police at the scene, told the ECHO: “I didn’t see anything I was just walking out the market when my mate said he heard the bang.

“We went to look and started recording just before police turned up.”

Not believed to be terror related

Afterthe attack on London Bridge on Friday, it’s perhaps not surprising that the sight of armed police on the streets of Ellesmere Port has raised alarm.

However, police have now taken steps to reassure people by releasing a statement .

Ell esmere Port police said: “While the incident on Enfield Road, and the circumstances surrounding it, remain ongoing we want to reassure the public that this is not believed to be terrorist related.

“Please avoid the area.If you have any information please contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 577560. ”

‘It made me shake ‘

An employee of a shop near where the shooting took place has spoken toCheshire Live .

Jordan Woodfin-Gretsy of Abode Home Interiors said he retreated into the shop for safety .

He told the publication: “It’s scary – like really scary. It made me shake, it was horrible. ”

Cheshire police statement

Cheshire Police have released a statement, reports Cheshire Live.

It confirms a firearm was discharged, and asks the public to avoid the area while police investigate.

The statement in full:

“At 2. 25 pm on Saturday 30 November police received a report of a firearm having being discharged on Enfield Road in Ellesmere Port.

“There is a large policing presence at the scene including armed officers and the area remains closed.

“The incident is in its early stages and the circumstances surrounding it are ongoing.

“The public are asked to avoid the area and if they have any concerns to speak to a local officer.

“If you have any information please contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML 577560. ”

Video footage from the scene shows multiple police c ars while sirens blare, as more armed response arrive. The video also shows armed police arresting a man on the street, outside a restaurant, the Sizzlin Spice Grill.

Resident: ‘Three men fired shots’

A resident who lives in the area contacted the ECHO to say that a person had been shot on Enfield Road.

The man said: “Three men fired shots from inside a car and shot a man.

“Apparently it was just a passerby and not the man they were actually looking for.

“Police have cordoned off the road and the helicopter is up over the area.” These details have not been

Victim reported to be male

The victim is believed to be male, and was described as being treated at the side of the road before being taken away in an ambulance,Cheshire Live reports.

There are also reports that an arrest has been made on Whitby Road.

Shock from people in Ellesmere Port

A number of social media users have expressed shock at the reported incident in Ellesmere Port, with one commenting: “Mad world.”

Police have confirmed a firearm has been discharged.

Ellesmere Port police have released a statement.

It says: “We are Currently responding to reports of a firearm having been discharged in the Enfield Road area.

“Armed officers are at the scene and the road is closed. Please avoid the area. If you have any information call us on 101 quoting IML 577560. ”
