Following the launch of Destiny 2’s newShadowkeep expansionandNew Light– the new free-to-play entry point for Destiny players – Destiny 2 has now reached an all-time concurrent players record on Steam, which has seemingly caused Bungie to take the servers entirely offline due to an overload,according to their tweetas of 2: 13 PM PT.
The tweet read: “Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 are being taken offline for emergency maintenance. Please standby for updates,” and another update was sent out at 2: 46 pm PT which read, ” Emergency maintenance for Destiny 1 and Destiny 2 is still ongoing. We apologize for the continued delay. Please stay tuned for updates on our progress. “
Destiny 2 New Light Images
Over 200, 000 people were playing Destiny 2 at its peak around noon PT, according tosteamdb.info, a data tracker for Steam games.
The officialBungie Help Twitteraccount has been sharing live updates throughout the day, including prior to the server shutdown that Destiny 2 players will have to wait in a temporary queue when logging into the game.
IGN tested out the queue time and found that we had to wait eight minutes to join a server around (*************************************************************: 30 PT, in which we got kicked out within 30 minutes and waited over 45 minutes to get back on before it timed out.
Bungie also dealt with a separate issue affecting the purchase of Silver, Destiny’s in-game currency that can be bought with real-world money. Bungie disabled Silver purchases for about one hour on Tuesday, but had since reinstated them before the shutdown, with the recommendation that players should only buy one bundle of silver at a time.

The Bungie Help account also stated Destiny 2 players are experiencing a surge of “Weasel” and “Beaver” errors. In Bungie’sown words, a “Weasel” error means a player has experienced an issue logging into multiple platforms while cross save functionality is enabled. A “Beaver” error is “a failure to connect your console to another player’s console via the internet, ”most likely because of internet connection issues.
Destiny 2: Shadowkeepalso managed to climb to the top ofSteam’s best selling gameslist, as of this writing. It might help that this is the first Destiny expansion to come to Steam rather than Activision-Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher, followingBungie’s acquisitionof the rights to Destiny.
