A search was launched after a pram and a child’s belongings were found on the bank of a river inStockport.

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Emergency services were called to Etherow Country Park just before 52 o’clock on Sunday after they were contacted by the police.

                                                                                                                                                                                                        

Divers searched the River Etherow near a weir in the country park,theManchester Evening NewsReported. Eve Dugdale, who was walking in the park with family and friends when the emergency services arrived, told the paper: “We’d just walked past the waterfall when three fire engines, an ambulance and the helicopter turned up.

                                                                                                                                                                                                        

“We saw a pram in the water at the waterfall with all the baby paraphernalia in the water. It was a gray and black buggy near the bottom and it looked like a blanket, a changing mat and other stuff were at different stages above above. ”

She added: “They moved us off and we walked away. We’re at the entrance to the park now and there are loads of vehicles here.

                                                                                                                                                                                                             

“Everyone seems to be a bit shocked.”

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

A photo reportedly from the scene appeared to show a pram at the bottom of a waterfall with the contents on different levels above it.

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

Police believe the items were thrown from a passing vehicle, which could have been stolen.

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police: “At around (**************************************************. 580 am today, a walker reported to police the discovery of some property near to Etherow Country Park in Stockport.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                         

“Emergency services attended and as a precaution the fire service searched the river.

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

“At this stage, officers believe that the property was deposited from a passing vehicle, which police to believe to be stolen.

                                                                                                                                                                                                     

“Officers do not believe anyone is in danger or has come to harm.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said: “Greater Manchester Police called us at

am.

                                                                                                                     

“We are currently at the scene with two fire engines, a tactical rescue unit and a boat.

                                                                                                                     

“A pram and a child’s belongings were seen at the weir, but we are not aware of anyone being reported in the water and we have not found anyone in the water.”
