Emergency services have rushed to Glasgow airport amid an ‘ongoing incident’.

It surrounds concerns over a piece of c argo on a KLM flight which arrived around 10 am today with the aircraft being condoned off.

Local reports say passengers have been evacuated from the international area.

Around 20 firefighters are believed to be at the scene.

Package declared safe

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 10 am today, the airport fire service attended an arriving KLM flight in response to concerns raised over a piece of cargo. The incident was stood down at 13. 25 after the package was declared safe by emergency services. ”

More information on the incident has emerged

A police insider told the Daily Record that the incident had been treated in line with standard procedures though people were not thought to be at any risk. They said: “It’s being treated as non-suspicious – a package thought to be involved in a chemical spillage, which has prompted precautionary measures being taken.”

The Daily Record have contacted Police Scotland for a statement on the incident. They have yet to confirm details.

Glasgow Airport have confirmed all other parts of the airport are fully operational.

A spokesperson for Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 10 am today, the airport fire service attended an arriving KLM flight in response to concerns raised over a piece of cargo. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the content of the package and the aircraft has been cordoned off pending the outcome of the investigation. All other parts of the airport are fully operational. ”
