John Legend has jokingly suggested that Melania Trump is too “occupied” with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to pay any attention to her husband following Donald Trump’s late night tirade against him and his wife Chrissy Teigen.
The multiple Grammy-winning singer was responding to Trump’s criticism ofLegend and his “filthy mouthed wife”after he appeared onNBC Nightly Newswith Lester Holt to discuss criminal justice reform in the US The president appeared irate about not getting credit for passing the First Step Act into law in December 2018.
The First Step Act reduces mandatory minimum sentences in certain cases, as well as helping inmates reintegrate themselves into society following their release.More than 3, 000 inmates were freedfrom prison due to good behavior after the act was signed, a move which was highly praised following years of scrutiny about the country’s justice system.
“When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help. I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it, “Trump wrote in a series of tweets on September 8.
“Obama couldn’t come close, and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!). I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit.
“But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise. Guys like boring musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is — but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed. “
Trump also hit out at Holt for failing to “bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans” when discussing the passing of the Criminal Justice Reform and how all that people want to “talk about now is Impeaching President Trump!” instead of his achievements.
Responding to the criticism following his appearance on the show, Legend wrote on Twitter: “Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody — ANYBODY — will praise you .
“Melania, please praise this man. He needs you. Your country needs you, Melania.”
In a follow-up post, Legend retweeting a GIF of the First Lady and Trudeau leaning in for a kiss at the G7 summit in France in August. The image of the pair appearing intimate together previously went viral, with thousands of people posting memes and jokes using the# MelaniaLovesTrudeau hashtag on Twitter.)
“Ah yes, Melania is otherwise occupied. My apologies, @realDonaldTrump,” Legend wrote while sharing the image.
During the show, Legend urged voters to be “aware of what your governors and legislators are doing in your state” in order to help reform the criminal justice system . He also suggested they get involved in Free America, an organization Legend set up to help “transform America’s criminal justice system.”
Responding to the “filthy mouthed wife” comment, model and TV personality Teigen referred to Trump as a “p *** ya * sb *** h president” who was having his “9th meltdown of the day.”
“The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn’t speak in the special, nor was I mentioned. I’m cackling at the pointless addition of me because he cannot not ab ab h, “Teigen added. a long-standing and outspoken critic of Trump, also campaigned to get #PresidentP *** yA * sB *** h trending on Twitter following his outburst.
