Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was mocked by Manchester City fans as the Norwegian’s hopes of lifting his first trophy asManchester Unitedmanager were left in tatters at Old Trafford.

United lost 3-1 to their city rivals in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, with City racing into a three-goal lead by half- time thanks to strikes from Bernardo Silva and Riyad Mahrez as well as an own goal from Andreas Pereira.

Marcus Rashford pulled a goal back for United in the second half, but Solskjaer’s side face a huge uphill task if they are to reach the final.

City fans could be heard signing “Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, we want you to stay” during the first half of a clash littered with United defensive errors.

Despite the mocking calls, Solskjaer was still bullish at full-time.

“We’ve shown before we have been down from a home tie and turned it around, “he told reporters.
