Piers Morgan has blasted Prince Andrew for ‘treating us like complete idiots’ over his links to billionaire convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.
The GMB host hit out as Andrew defended Saturday’s ‘car crash’ interview with the BBC.
Sources close to the Prince havetoldthe BBC he wanted to address the issues head-on and he had done so with “honesty and humility.”
In the interview with Emily Maitlis, he denied having sex with the 17 – year-old Virginia Roberts.
Piers Morgan, on Good Morning Britain today, said it was a “train wreck.”
He said: “This wasn’t a train wreck, it was a multiple pile-up of every steam engine on the planet.
” The problem is he kept mentioning he was a military hero and he doesn’t sweat.
“Pictures of him sweating come out … all those little tiny, tiny things.
“Stop treating us like complete idiots.”
Former Buckingham Palace press officer Dickie Arbiter said the interview had been “excruciating.”
He said many questions would be raised at Buckingham Palace .
“They will be wondering: Was this the right decision? Was the right decision made? Who made the decision to put him on? Did he make it himself or did he seek advice within the Palace? “
Emily Maitlis said she understood the Queen had given her tacit approval for the interview to go ahead.
Writing in the Times, Maitlissaidit seemed the Queen was “on board” with the interview, after Andrew indicated he sought approval from “higher up”.
For several months, the Duke of York has faced questions over his links to Epstein – an American billionaire financier who took his own life in August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The Prince “categorically” denies having any sexual contact with Virginia Roberts, now known as Virginia Giuffre.
She said the first occasion it took place was when she was 17 .
Royal biographer Angela Levin said she was gripped by the interview, but felt it was “ill-judged” to offer insights into his life with Epstein.
“Unfortunately it was a sign of his arrogance,” she said. “He has always been arrogant.
” The Queen’s motto is don’t complain don’t explain. I think in her heart she will be extremely embarrassed. “
In the interview, he said on the date Virginia Giuffre said he had sex with her – he had taken his daughter to Pizza Express in Woking for a party before spending the night a home.
He dismissed claims he was sweating profusely as he has a medical condition meaning he can ‘t sweat, after an overdose of adrenaline in the Falklands War.
