UK coronavirus death toll jumps 708 in a day as infections near 42000 – Evening Standard, Standard.co.uk

The number of people who have died in the UK after testing positive for coronavirus has jumped by a record in a day.

                                                                                                                                                

A total of 4, 313 patients – including a five-year-old child – have died in hospital with Covid – as of 5pm on Friday, up from 3, (the day before.)                                                                                                                                                    

It is the highest daily increase yet in Britain, as the virus continues to approach its peak.

                                                                                                                                                

NHS England said of the 728 people new deaths in England hospitals, patients were between five and 313 years old, and had no underlying health conditions.

                                                                                                                                                                     

But the rise in confirmed cases has narrowed, jumping by 3, 823 to 104, – the smallest daily hike in four days.

                                                                                                                                                   

It comes as the government readies to reach out to opposition parties in the battle to defeat the “national emergency”.

                                                                                                                                                

The latest figures from the Department. of Health and Social Care show that , 406 people have now been tested for the disease, but the number tested in the (hours to 9am on April 4 was 9, .

                                                                                                                                                            

This is a decrease on the two previous days, when the equivalent figure was above 19, .                                                                                                                                                 

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has vowed a significant ramping up of testing this month to hit , a day by May.

Meanwhile, government coronavirus adviser Professor Neil Ferguson warned that Britain faces “week and weeks” of high infections, but that the (lockdown could be relaxed within weeks if social distancing guidance is strictly followed.
