United need to make a change
Why on earth is Fred not yet on the pitch? This game is still there for the taking, despite how poor United have been. It’s crying out for a midfield ball-player to drive United through the middle and play balls through to the quick forwards. Angel Gomes is another who could change the feel of the contest, but still we wait for both of them.

Keane on West Ham’s goal
Look how easy it is for West Ham. Noble ends up taking nine touches on the ball, there’s no pressure at all. I could say ‘nice little pass, nice little movement, lovely finish’ but where is the pressure on the ball?
“You go back to basics in defending. United have bodies back and there’s no point unless you have pressure on the ball. Look at Noble, it’s too easy. It’s simple.
“It’s a nice bit of quality from West Ham and a lovely finish but it sums up the performance, as usual they’re just not good enough . It’s the basics of football and a lot of players don’t want to do it, I’m amazed. ”
Mourinho on the first half
Mourinho was asked what’s missing from United’s game:
At this moment I think United is missing everything. It looks to me a set game, a game of let’s see what is going to happen.
“Going back to Roy’s comments, which I have to agree totally with, sometimes players are a bit confused and it’s difficult for them to understand. I always think that when a block is low and compact, like United was, they had eight players in the area.
“You are in a great condition to press the ball because you have lots of people close to each other. Since the position of Andreas Pereira, close to the man with the ball, there’s no pressing. Then Matic, no pressing, then movement in the space and nobody goes.
“Yarmolenko is in the box surrounded by center-backs and nobody even tries to go to block the shot so I think positionally we can say the low block was correct but the idea of the low block was completely wrong. ”
A disappointing first half
Not good enough.
