MANCHESTER UNITED will send David de Gea for a scan as soon as he reports back to Carrington on Thursday to discover the extent of his injury.

De Gea limped out of action with what is feared to be a hamstring problem during Spain’s 1-1 draw with Sweden on Tuesday night.

The keeper is due back in Manchester on Wednesday morning where he will undergo tests to see if he is fit enough to be available for the clash with Liverpool this weekend.

De Gea’s injury is just the latest United have been hit by this season – with as many as 11 first team players pulling up with problems in the first two months of the campaign.

Manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is looking at what could be causing the fitness problems, particularly as several have been muscle injuries.

MANCHESTER UNITED have been urged to sign Zlatan Ibrahimovic instead of Mario Mandzukic in January.

ESPN pundit Gabriele Marcotti said of the Swedish striker: “I think he would benefit many clubs.

“Thinking of clubs where he could move the needle like [AC] Milan or Manchester United, it’s getting back into the top four.

“Social media folk, there’s no evidence he’s going to Manchester United.

“But you know how, if Manchester United fail to qualify for the Champions League it will reduce the payment from Chevrolet or one of their sponsors, it goes down by £ 20 or £ 30 million .

“Zlatan pays for himself, you plonk Zlatan down in there and say‘ Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer], just deal with it ’. They were going for Mario Mandzukic, surely Zlatan can do what Mario Mandzukic can do and do it better?

“Let’s be clear, there’s no evidence or suggestion, but if you’re Mino [Raiola] you’re just waiting for the phone to ring between now and January, because he holds the cards. ”
