A potentially habitable Earth-like planet discovered 40 light years away

Astronomers have discovered a potentially habitable Earth-like planet 40 light-years away. Named Gliese 12b, the planet's surface temperature could be suitable for liquid water and potentially life. Gliese 12b is similar in size to Earth, or slightly smaller than Venus. Its surface temperature is about 42C. Its parent star is a cool red dwarf star, Gliese 12, in Pisces, which is one-fourth the size of the Sun and has a surface temperature of about 60% of the Sun. In terms of the amount of light it receives from its parent star, it is equivalent to being between Venus and Earth. NASA said the object is an excellent candidate for further observations by the Webb Space Telescope in the future.
