Bitwarden for iOS now supports creating and using Passkey logins (passkeys)

The password manager Bitwarden has previously provided the Passkey function on the desktop platform. Users can generate and bind Passkey to Bitwarden on supported websites, and then synchronize and use the passkey to log in to the website.

Previously, this password manager did not support the pass key function in the iOS version. Users still need to log in with their account password and 2FA verification code when actually logging in, which is relatively troublesome.

But this trouble has now been solved: Bitwarden v2024.4.2 for iOS (released on May 4, 2024) has gained pass key support. Users can create pass keys when registering for various applications and use the pass keys to log in. .

Verification is also required to call the pass key during actual login, including TouchID, FaceID or password verification. This ensures that when your phone is temporarily unlocked for others to use, others will not use the pass key to log in to some websites or applications.

It should be noted that not all websites support the pass key function, so it can only be used if the website or application supports the pass key. Passkey will be called a pass key, biometric key or key in some websites.

Introduction to pass keys:

The passkey is essentially an encryption key. After the key is created, it is stored on the local device. Users cannot download (but in fact, all major password managers already support Passkey synchronization), view the key content, or modify the key. The passkey replaces the password when logging in.

Because the pass key is a complex key, and the pass key of each website is different. Therefore, there is no problem of reusing passwords, which can avoid the credential stuffing problem caused by various data leaks in the past.
