Jesy Nelson has revealed she attempted suicide following “horrific” trolling she endured in the years following(The X Factor.

The Little Mix star won the series in 2011, but in a recent interview she made the revelation that negative comments about her appearance drove her to attempt suicide within two years of winning the show. She also struggled with depression and an eating disorder, Nelson said.

“I felt that I physically couldn’t tolerate the pain any more,”

She added: “A lot of people think ‘stop moaning’, but until you’ve experienced it, it’s hard to understand – and it doesn’t just happen to people in the limelight.

“There’s so many people struggling with social media and online trolling. People need to know about the effects it has. “

Jesy’s admission will feature in the BBC One documentaryJesy Nelson: Odd One Out ,which will air next week and see the singer discuss her struggles in the spotlight on camera for the first time.

It also comes in the wake of Jesy’s Little Mix bandmate Jade Thirlwall sharinghow appearing onThe X Factoractuallyhelped her recover from anorexia.

She explained previously: “Anorexia was my own dark secret and I guess I was sort of satisfied with that. It was my own thing that I could do to myself and nobody knew about it.

“I knew I would ruin my dream of becoming a singer.”
