PM Narendra Modi releases video of him plogging at Mamallapuram beach – Times of India, The Times of India


NEW DELHI:Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is inMamallapuramfor an informal summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, began Saturday morning with a special message regarding Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and Fit India campaign.
The Prime Minister was seenploggingat a beach early this morning for over 30 minutes. He also called on people to “ensure our public places are clean and tidy.”
Clad in a black kurta-pajama, Modi was seen with a large plastic bag in hand during his early morning walk as he picked plastic litter and water bottles strewn on the sand. At the end of the clean-up campaign, the PM deposited the garbage with local cleanliness and sanitation workers.
“Plogging at a beach in Mamallapuram this morning. It lasted for over 30 minutes. Also handed over my ‘collection’ to Jeyaraj, who is a part of the hotel staff. Let us ensure our public places are clean and tidy ! Let us also ensure we remain fit and healthy, “Modi tweeted along with a 3-minute video of him cleaning up the beach.

Plogging is an exercise that combines jogging with picking up litter. The word is derived from the word jogging and it involves participants picking up litter as they jog. The PM has in recent months has highlighted the need to eliminate single use plastic from India. Last month, he had urged the people to participate in two-km-long run to promote plogging across the country starting October 2.
Earlier, Modi tweeted that he had a refreshing walk and also exercised along the scenic coast.

Modi and Xi Jinping are meeting again on Saturday to continue their talks, which will be followed by delegation-level talks. The two leaders are holding talks at the Tanjo Hall in Taj Fisherman’s Cove.
Prime Minister Modi will also host a lunch for President Xi, following which the Chinese leader will proceed to Chennai airport where he will depart for a two-day state visit to Nepal.

On Saturday, Xi and Modi spend five hours of “quality time” and held discussions on a wide range of issues including the unbalanced trade that exists between the two countries and ways to counter radicalization and terrorism.
Prime Minister Modi took the visiting Chinese dignitary to three iconic monuments – Arjuna’s Penance, Krishna’s Butter Ball and the Shore Temple in Mamallapuram- before settling down for a colorful performance.
