Forecasters are running hot and cold with their predictions, warning a sweltering end to the summer will be followed by a brutally cold winter.
Later this month, after the remnants of Hurricane Dorian bring a spell of blustery, wetweather, it is expected to turn hotter than Hawaii in the south of the UK, where temperatures will hit C.
But University College London climate predication experts say the start of 2020 will be one of the coldest in 30 Years.
The scientists, led by Prof Mark Saunders, analized sea temperatures and weather systems over the north Atlantic to make a long-range winter forecast.
Freezing Arctic air is set to descend in the first months of next year as the Gulf stream sidesteps Britain, leaving us without the warmer weather it normally brings from the Atlantic and Caribbean.
Prof Saunders said: “This would rank the 2020, January-February central England temperature the coldest winter since 2013, and January-February 2020 as the seventh coldest winter in 30 Years. ”
While the team admit one of the longest-range forecasts ever is not set in stone, they say there is a 57% chance central England will be colder than in the winter of 2018.
But for this week, temperatures will stay moderate.
There will be heavy rain in places on Monday.

Wednesday will become windy as Hurricane Dorian, which has left devastation in the Bahamas and the Carolinas in the US, dissipates over the UK.
Oli Claydon, of theMet Office, said: “The remnants of Dorian are expected to arrive in the UK late on Tuesday afternoon, but will only affect northern parts of the country .
He added: “By then it will have calmed down significantly.
” It is no longer expected to arrive at the same time as Tropical Storm Gabrielle, which had been predicted. ”
