“This country was still great when I came to the throne – all that has happened on my watch is the place has fallen apart.”

So saysOlivia Colmanas the Queen in the first full trailer for the highly anticipated new series ofThe Crown.

As the story moves into the turbulent times of the 1960 s and 70 s, the clip shows the third series set against the backdrop of the miners’ strikes, the country bankruptcy and national security threats, as well as the tenure of Harold Wilson as prime minister.

While previous teasers have shown Colman taking over the reign from Claire Foy, the big-budget period drama’s new trailer goes into much more detail about what is to come for the royals.

In the dramatic new footage, the Queen is preparing for her silver jubilee and considering the impact she has during her reign, saying in voiceover: “On days like today, ask yourself in the time I’ve been on the throne what have I actually achieved? “

It also features Josh O’Connor as Prince Charles as he becomes Prince of Wales.

“Never turn your back on true love, and watch out for your family,” he is advised.

When he replies, “They mean well,” he is told, “No, they don’t.”

And there is further discord between Charles and his family when the heir to the throne questions: “Am I listened to in this family? Am I seen for who and what I am? No.”

The Queen can be heard saying: “We have all made sacrifices and suppressed who we are. It is not a choice, it is a duty.”

The trailer also shows Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, taking over from Vanessa Kirby, and offers glimpses of Ben Daniels as Lord Snowdon, Jason Watkins as Wilson and Charles Dance as Lord Mountbatten.

There is also a shot of Call The Midwife actress and Killing Eve series two writer Emerald Fennell as Camilla Parker-Bowles.
