UK weather forecast: Brits brace for Boxing Day DOWNPOURS after mild Christmas Day – Express.co.uk, Express.co.uk


On Christmas Day, the weather turned milder in some areas, with other regions experiencing more of a mild chill. Some areas sawplenty of sunshinewith bright skies.

However, Boxing Day won’t be as mild with scattered showers likely to cause chaos across the nation.

The rain will be expected to fall across the south, west and center of the British Isles.

The Met Office warned that prolonged downpours are also expected.

The Environment Agency has issued flood warnings where flooding could be expected.

A further flood alerts are expected where flooding is possible.

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill said a band of rain is expected to move from the southwest to the northeast of England.

He said that “pretty much everywhere” will experience rain in some form on Thursday.

He continued: “For most places there is going to be a lot of cloud and some rain around too. The heaviest will be in southwest England and Wales.

“Because of the amount of rain we have seen this month there could also be some localized flooding. ”

The Met Office, however, has not issued any flood warnings.

The Environment agency has also warned that rivers in some regions remain high following a deluge of showers over the last few days.

Rivers such as the River Thames and lower parts of the River Severn and the East Riding of Yorkshire have been impacted.

He said: “A wet start tomorrow in Northern Ireland, Wales and the South West.

“Turning brighter with sunshine, a few showers later.

“ That rain spills across the rest of England, central and southern Scotland.

“Proceeded by a little bit of snow over the higher ground, turning back to rain later – not too much rain around, there will be some drier spells, the best of which will be in the northeast of Scotland on Boxing Day. ”
