But then a bit of magic occurred, as Joanna continued: “Went to the audition and went into the toilet beforehand to make sure I looked alright, and Ruth [Jones, the co-creator] was in there!

“We had never met before but when you’re Welsh and someone else is Welsh and you’re in London, you know each other.”

Joanna is a fantastic fit for her character, but the next part of the story just shows how complimenting someone can go a long way.

“I told her how amazing she was and I loved her work and how fantastic she was, and she went into the room and said ‘I’ve got our Stacey’, and I went into the audition and that was that! “
